A guide on how to ID a Pippa doll.
FACE
Pippa has an oval face with painted eyes and eyebrows. Her eyelashes should be quite thick, but it is not uncommon for a few to have dropped out or, indeed, all. Pippa's lashes are enhanced by two or three painted strokes at the outer edges.
Some Pippa dolls don't have blush, some do - from subtle to light-your-cigarette.
Pippa's ears are well detailed, though in human terms would be rather high up on the head. She also has a small upturned nose, but this is very slightly straighter in Emma and Tammie types.
Lipstick is pink, apart from Mandy, whose lipstick is a peachy colour. All painted features have a tendency to be faded/rubbed in played with dolls.
HAIR
Most Pippa types have long straight hair to about waist level. Depending on which doll, colour ranges from platinum blonde to black. Some of Pippa's friends have different hairdos, see the dolls for more details.
BODY
Arms move at the shoulder and she has no elbow or wrist joint, though arms are slightly angled at elbow and wrist. Palms face downward, with fingers and palms quite well detailed with a love-line, life-line and fingernails.
She has a twist waist at a slight diagonal.
Pippa's legs can move backwards and forwards at the hip. Pippa also has a delicate walking mechanism that can be quite effective with practise, but is usually broken in dolls that have been played with.
Knees are jointed with a pin, and are often well preserved if they have not suffered too much abuse. Pippa's calves are nicely shaped, her feet are small and slightly pointed downward with no toe detail.
Rather incongruously, Pippa has Palitoy Hong Kong embossed on her posterior.
Some of the dolls were also issued as dancing dolls, who are different in appearance.
